In Partnership with the United Nations, Misk Foundation introduces a fellowship opportunity through the Junior Professional Officer Program (JPO). The JPO program is considered one of the best entry-points for a career with the UN and it targets fresh graduates with a post-graduate degree or young professionals looking to pursue a career in philanthropy.  

The main objective of the program is to provide young professionals an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of multilateral international cooperation through a learning experience under the supervision of specialists. The goal from the program is to contribute to the advancement and furtherance of their organization’s mandate.

Program Prerequisites

Saudi youth interested in pursuing a career in the UN and its agencies with the below criteria:

  • Under the age of 32 at the time of application   
  • Excellent verbal and written proficiency of English (another UN language is preferred but not mandatory)  
  • Must have a Masters Degree with a minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience or Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 4 years of full-time work experience
  • Relevant Education and Work Experience is required to be considered for the specific JPO position

Examples of JPO Assignments:
Intangible Cultural Heritage
  • Providing technical and analytical support to the international cooperation mechanisms established under the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
  • Maintains contacts with relevant Field Offices, Permanent Delegations, national counterparts, colleagues within the Section and others aimed at promoting effective communication
  • Contributes to the formulation of project documents and to the coordination of periodic reporting

 

Human Resources Staffing and Development
  • Design career path and other career development tools to support career development of staff, and develop communication plan and tools
  • Participate in mapping of learning and development activities supporting career path
  • Participate in refinement of workforce planning framework and implement workforce planning exercises to identify staffing needs for sectors/services
  • Support the development of new performance management system and design and implementation of communication strategy and plan
  • Research innovative HR practices and make a proposal on the introduction of work arrangements such as job sharing, job swapping and job shadowing to support cross-functional and cross-sectional career mobility of national staff

High school students, college students, fresh graduates and experienced youth can also participate in short-term virtual experiences with minimal human interaction that mimic entry level work offered by top-tiered firms, local SMEs and start-ups.

Short-term internship and co-op programs (e.g., IBM, Hyperloop)

The program instils confidence in students as they feel they are on the right path to an impactful career through hands-on experience in prestigious placements.

You can take the test through Duolingo English as an alternative standardized proficiency test. Please note that scores are available after 48 hours from taking the test so take that into account.
