This article belongs to a series of articles that introduce the second cohort of participants in the Misk Incubator for Initiatives 2022, one of Misk Foundation's programs that aims to build the capacity of non-profit youth organizations and guide them towards creating a sustainable social impact.

Today, we're taking a look at the remarkable journey of the organization Kaleem, which has been providing invaluable help for stutterers for many years and making a positive long-term impact on Saudi communities.

Vision & Mission

Kaleem began as an initiative and then evolved into an organization that specializes in helping individuals with stuttering through supportive interventions. This is done to enable them to become more active members in their communities. Kaleem strives to improve the communication capabilities of stutterers, by creating a safe and nurturing setting. Making an effort to assist those in need can help them out of the loneliness and alienation caused by their circumstances. This helps them come up with better ways of expressing themselves, fostering friendships and being a part of communal activities.

The association is currently striving to strengthen its ties with the public and private sectors as well as other international non-profit organizations in the same field. With this, it hopes to widen its reach and extend more impactful assistance. Kaleem is making strides to set up interactive support groups for people who stutter, in all cities in Saudi Arabia. Their goal is to reach and serve the most number of individuals that could benefit from their initiatives.

Programs & Initiatives

Kaleem introduced a set of certified international standards to accomplish its goals. Among the most distinguished is the "Rawasi" program, which trains people with stuttering, enhancing their ability to communicate and gain knowledge to make a long-lasting impact. In 1998, the "Starfish" program was launched to assist stutterers with their speech. Its effective administration by members of the stuttering youth community has resulted in it becoming a leader in its field and improving quality of life for many.

The organization is utilizing social media to run campaigns and inform the public about the valuable contributions of people who are affected by stuttering. The goal of these campaigns is to showcase how individuals in the stuttering community can help support the nation through creative expression, guidance, and expertise across different industries.

The Impact

The organization has an extensive presence in the region, with its programs and activities benefitting more than 200 people from across the 6 Arab Gulf cities. The most prominent of which is the initiative launched in Abha, under the generous patronage of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Asir.

The Audience

Kaleem has his sights set on helping out young people with stuttering issues. By helping to increase their professional capabilities, improve their overall cognitive achievements, and provide them with a better way to communicate with the world around them. The organization keeps its members updated by utilizing numerous communication channels such as social media. Additionally, they involve people who were previously part of their programs and initiatives to serve their beneficiaries and help them reach their goals.

Challenges

Kaleem is continuously trying to provide its audience with diverse solutions. To this end, it uses questionnaires and polls to better understand what their audience requires or expects. This helps the organization understand how to modify fees and cover costs, as well as foresee future trends in order to fulfill beneficiaries needs adequately.

Kaleem has the backing of several organizations. That helps cover the costs for their programs, amplifies the reach of their initiatives, and encourages its volunteer members to stay engaged.

Kaleem's commitment to helping stutterers has been inspirational and their efforts to help them gain skills, build confidence, and further the goals of Vision 2030 are truly commendable. Their dedication has been instrumental in empowering those affected by stuttering, allowing them to make an even greater difference.
