RoboTweak NPO

The first NPO specialized in robotics and open sources
RoboTweak, a Saudi non-profit organization concerned with robot-related technologies, including hardware, equipment, and systems, and the first Arab non-profit open source organization.

This feature is part of the second collection of introductory profiles of the "Misk Initiatives Incubator 2022" program, one of Misk Foundation's initiatives that is concerned with launching and supporting non-profit youth organizations, in addition to guiding them towards creating a sustainable societal impact. Today, we will review together the technical and digital footprint that RoboTweak organization is creating in terms of supporting the initiatives of designers, engineers, technicians and even amateur communities who are seeking to innovate systems and equipment for investing and operating robots, in order to invest them at the local level, and to make a technical and educational leap, that clearly bears a distinctive national character of its achievements at the regional level.

Vision & Mission

RoboTweak aspiration to become the first open-source platform of its kind in robotics and to be able to attract an influential and effective experts and specialists who work in the field of designing and developing equipment and systems related to robotics by providing an intellectual incubator and an interactive environment capable of enabling them to put forward their purposeful initiatives and innovative ideas. It also aims to invest in them professionally to produce projects that are approved, integrated, and supported by relevant research, including design criteria and mechanical and electrical plans. It also aims to enable open access to educational resources in order for any specialist or amateur to benefit from them.

The organization also seeks to localize technical learnings, experiences, and knowledge in the Arabic language to pave and simplify the way for the Arabic readers to access these digital resources, which includes information about Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

The efforts of RoboTweak resulted in registering its name as the first open-source non profit organization in the Saudi, capable of providing access to various technical disciplines for everyone, starting from robots and autonomous cars all the way to drones and script libraries.

Programs & Initiatives

Despite its recent establishment, the organization has been able to lay the scientific and knowledge foundations to launch a variety of high-impact initiatives, where the organization intends to organize a specialized workshop for eight emerging companies working in the field of robotics, to enhance their expertise and develop their technical skills. Then, by the end of this interactive workshop, it will publish the outputs and training content in the form of open-sources to benefit all those involved in this specialization.

The Impact

RoboTweak is still in the stage of exploring trends and consolidating bases to pave the way toward launching the most beneficial, interactive, and pioneering initiatives in the region. However, the expected impact will affect large numbers of members of the digital and technical community and other sectors.

The Audience

The organization’s mission targets all members of the robotics community and those interested in this field, whether they are specialists, amateurs, or entrepreneurs interested in emerging digital robotics technologies, and seeking to invest in and employ them to facilitate and simplify community services.

RoboTweak is also working on establishing an advanced technical incubator for the community of shareholders in its project, through the formation of an expanded interactive communication network, including digital channels and participation in events and activities, which bring together specialists and amateurs in the robotics world and those who provide their technical expertise and skills in this field for free, to participate in the development of the technical community.

Challenges

Robotweak faces many challenges as do other non-profit community organizations. Its approach to secure open sources for free contradicts the technological trends of the market, which is based on patents and intellectual property. Still, this does not discourage the organization's determination to move forward in achieving the goals of their vision.

On the other hand, the organization uses many practical tools to anticipate the challenges it faces, which enables it to collect and measure data to derive future trends and visions, including questionnaires, organizing periodic meetings, and surveys.

As for the strategy and plans of the organization, it is characterized by being interactive and not restricted to titles, as it grows with the ambitions and aspirations of its members and audience, and it aspires to enable, support, and launch eight emerging companies specialized in the field of designing and developing robotic programs and equipment.

It should be noted that Robotweak is also seeking to secure many partnerships with local bodies, organizations, and companies that can finance its initiatives and projects.

Robotweak is heading towards a future paved by the success of its pioneering and innovative community projects in the field of robotics which is a critical component of the digital revolution that the world is currently witnessing.
