Five Jobs of the future and how you can prepare for them

Explore the careers of tomorrow
The world of employment is rapidly evolving. The future promises unique possibilities for those able to stay ahead of the curve. However, the digital inclusion in the workplace is certainly inevitable. Here’s a list of in-demand jobs in the future and how you can fill the spot.

The future is often seen as the great unknown, no one can know with certainty what the world may look like a decade from now, but that shouldn’t take the fun out of guessing. Will there finally be flying cars? Will robots and humans walk side by side? While a few years ago, these would've been musings of sci-fi storytellers, today, they’re closer to reality than to fiction.

And as the world evolves, so will humankind’s needs and with that, the demand in the market for things and services we may have never imagined ‘till recently.

According to The Future of Jobs Report 2020 by the World Economic Forum, there will be a rise in the fields that work with automation, digital technology, and artificial intelligence due to the ever-expanding technologies in various industries.

Out of this world

With Space Tourism being a realistic field discussed today and the country attempting to participate in the global space race by 2030, pursuing space sciences is an excellent choice with endless possibilities. Imagine becoming a rocketship engineer, a space tour guide, or an extraterrestrial water creator.

This field often requires advanced and specialized STEM education. It's an excellent option if you're passionate about mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.

Data Language

The power of data is critical to the future, as it is required in many economic fields based on the collection, organization, and interpretation of data related to its operations.

It is important to note that data is a very diverse field of study; while coding is essential, engineering degrees in computer science, information technology, and data science can be obtained, or you can take quick online courses to learn the fundamentals of programming to help you enter this field.

The Rise of Cybersecurity Experts

With our growing reliance on data, cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important. This field is likely only to continue growing, opening up opportunities such as becoming an ethical hacker (someone hired to hack into a system to reveal and address its vulnerabilities) or an encryption specialist (a master locksmith of data, keys, and passcodes), to name a few.

At its base, a cybersecurity expert is trained to test and ensure an organization's information system’s safety and security. Strong knowledge of computer sciences, along with a curiosity for understanding the ins and outs of data protection, encryption, and puzzles, can set you on this path.

Introduction to Cybersecurity is a great supplement program for professionals working in IT, Risk Management, and Consulting who want to enhance their current skill set with a strong grasp of cybersecurity fundamentals.

One word: robots

By the year 2030, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is said to contribute over SAR 506 billion to the Saudi economy. AI applications are vast, from smart living to personalization, optimization of processes to yes, robotics. What used to be sci-fi electric dreams back in the day are now quickly becoming a reality.

The Kingdom aims to train Saudi AI engineers and students and create Arabic language AI-related skills. To enter this field, we suggest pursuing an academic path in computer science or majoring in artificial intelligence (AI) to enter this field.

AI is also a vast realm where you can carve out a niche. For example, you can be an architect or urban planner for technology-driven cities by learning how AI can be applied to create smart buildings, particularly the Kingdom is in process to build technology-driven cities.. Or, as a marketer, you can specialize in personalization through AI. Knowing how to harness artificial intelligence within your field of interest can give you an edge in the world of tomorrow. Check out Intro to Machine Learning to help you with career advancement in this field.

Go green

One way to prevent the future heading towards dystopian mayhem is to pursue environmental sustainability. Many experts claim that green jobs are the future, with areas associated with energy efficiency, ecotourism, sustainability consulting, and coordination to gain more importance.

Suppose you want to pursue a career that allows you to help the planet. In that case, you can either formally pursue an education related to environmental sciences or start simply by taking an introductory online course on managing your carbon footprint, recycling, and upcycling.

As the world evolves, there will be new fields and jobs to emerge. It’s best to research a topic of interest before pursuing it further. Learn more about many more professions of the future (here).
